It uses the front or back camera, and generates kaleidoscopic images in realtime (as in full 30 frames a second). I've written a realtime video kaleidoscope for iPhone + iPod Touch. If you want a full-featured image editor with layers, filters, etc, Pixelmator looks like a great value for the money. My Kaleidoscopes app is much more narrowly focused, but I think it's easier to use than the different kaleidoscope features of Pixelmator. It looks like Pixelmator is a fairly complex image editor with layers, lots of different filters, etc. I took a look at 'Pixelmator', as mentioned by a previous poster. Currently it supports radial kaleidoscopes with 3 to 36 'petals', and 8-way square kaleidoscope, and a traditional image like that generated by a 2-mirror tube kaleidoscope (where the image is composed of a grid of equilateral triangles.)Īll the different types of kaleidoscopes start with a triangular section of a source image, and you can drag the triangle around your source image and see the results 'live'. It uses template files to describe the different types of kaleidoscopes, so the types of kaleidoscopes is expandable. I am in active development on a Mac app that will both generate still kaleidoscope images of various kinds, and will also let you generate hypnotic animated kaleidoscopes. I see that several people have asked about kaleidoscope software for Macs. They are all clunky and ugly and hard to use. I have been looking for software all afternoon and trying out loads. If your looking for a Kaleidoscope application for Mac, the best one hands down is Pixelmator.

I'm lost without my kaleidoscope plug in. I used to use Mehdi in PS on my PC, but have recently gone Mac. Here's something for PHOTOSHOP users: Kaleidoscope Actionĭoes anyone know of any plug-ins for Photoshop on a mac?

I have been using the Mehdi Kaleidoscope Plugin which should work on a few other programs as well (Paint Shop Pro and the likes). Check out my kaleidoscope set to see some of what it can do. Paint Shop Pro includes a nice kaleidoscope effect. Jbum, you're kaleidoscope software is great! I love it!
